You Don’t Need Another Course, Book, or Workshop to Reach Your Goals
The Transformation You’re Craving Starts With Action—Not Accumulation
By Barbara Fonti
If you’re anything like the brilliant, driven women I coach, you’ve probably got a shelf (or three) filled with self-help books. Your inbox is overflowing with free PDFs and masterclass invites. And don’t even get me started on the number of online courses you’ve signed up for… and never quite finished.
Here’s a truth that might sting a little:
You don’t need another course. You need to start doing.
The Harsh Reality of Learning Addiction
Let’s look at the numbers:
- Only 3–6% of people who buy online courses actually finish them.
- A 2015 study published in Psychological Science found that just 6% of people who read a self-help book actually implement what they’ve read into long-term behavioral change.
So why do we keep signing up for more? Why are we addicted to seeking more knowledge?
Because it feels productive. Because starting something new gives us a dopamine hit. Because planning and researching feels like progress… when in reality, it’s a cleverly disguised form of procrastination.
Information Isn’t the Problem—Inaction Is
You already know what to do:
- That scary sales call you keep avoiding? You know it could move your business forward.
- That boundary you haven’t set with a client, even though you’re burnt out? You know it’s necessary.
- That offer you’ve been “perfecting” for six months? It’s time to launch it messy and improve as you go.
But instead of doing the uncomfortable thing, you sign up for another course. You attend another mindset webinar. You buy another book on habits or confidence or time management.
Let’s be honest: the thing you are avoiding is the thing you need most.
Seeking is a Form of Hiding
We tell ourselves we’re “not ready yet.” We think we need to “learn just a little more” before we start. But what we really need is courage. Imperfect action. A little grit.
Growth doesn’t happen in the learning—it happens in the doing.
You don’t need more inspiration.
You don’t need another coach yelling “You got this!” from your Instagram feed.
You need to act.
What If You Committed to Less Consuming and More Creating?
Imagine what could happen if you redirected the hours you spent watching videos and reading PDFs into bold, messy, real-life action?
- Call three past clients and ask for referrals.
- Go live on Instagram—even if you’re nervous.
- Say “no” to that time-sucking opportunity.
- Raise your rates without apologizing.
- Pitch that collaboration you’ve been dreaming of.
This is how change happens—not in your head, but in your calendar, your conversations, your choices.
You Don’t Need More—You Need to Trust Yourself
Every successful person I coach eventually reaches this truth:
You already have what you need.
The only thing missing is your belief in your own ability to act before you feel ready.
So let this be your permission slip:
Stop collecting.
Start executing.
Make friends with discomfort.
Do the thing.
